FAQs on South America Tours

Are flights included on your South America tours?

We offer both ‘land only’ and ‘flight inclusive’ bookings on the majority of our South America tours. However, some trips are offered ‘land only’ so it’s important to check this before you book. If the South America trip you would like to book is showing as flights excluded, please contact a member of the experienced team at Exodus who will be able to provide a personally tailored quote for flights.

Where’s the best place for wildlife holidays in South America?

Home to wildly beautiful landscapes, South America is home to some of the most biodiverse regions in the world. From tropical rainforests and volcanic islands to sprawling coastline, you’ll find weird and wonderful creatures around every corner. But we can’t dispute that the Galapagos Islands offer some of the best wildlife experiences with the likes of seals, giant iguanas, the blue-footed booby and various species of tortoises and turtles to discover. Head to the Amazon Rainforest for encounters with brightly coloured parrots, black spider monkeys, jaguars and sloths.

Do you need vaccinations for trips to South America?

Depending on where you’re travelling to in South America, you may or may not need vaccinations. All our tours specify any required vaccinations, and we also list any that are recommended such as tetanus, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rabies, typhoid, tuberculosis and yellow fever. You must also take all necessary precautions against mosquito bites as they can spread tropical viral diseases. Please consult your doctor or health professional before you travel.

What wildlife can you see on South America tours?

This sprawling continent is a natural paradise for wildlife lovers with thrilling destinations such as the Amazon Rainforest, Patagonia and Ecuador.  The wildlife that you’ll see in South America will vary from one destination to another but there are many animals that are synonymous with the continent, which include tapirs, jaguars, iguanas, monkeys and many species of reptiles, amphibians and birds.

What country is best to visit on South America trips?

With so many wonderfully diverse countries to choose from, it’s hard to crown just one as the best to visit in South America as they all have something enthralling and exciting to offer. For deserts, ancient ruins and fantastic hiking trails, Chile is the place to go but if you want to get up close to the wildlife then the Amazon Rainforest and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador are where you should book your trip. Colombia, Peru and Brazil are particularly good for exploring ancient sites and national parks and immersing yourself in local culture.

What’s the traditional food of South America?

Inspired by many countries and cultures, the food in South America is a huge melting pot of flavours. From Peruvian delicacies such as ceviche and quinoa soup to the rich lamb in Patagonia and delicious fresh fish and seafood of Chile, the continent is pure heaven for food lovers. Some of the traditional dishes include feijoada, a hearty pork and bean stew; choripan, grilled chorizo sandwich; and vatapa, shrimp and peanut stew.
