AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

My wife and I had an excellent break on the Amalfi coast – we were not certain if the location used by Exodus would be the right one but having been there it was a wise decision to be in the village of Bomerano.  The hotel was excellent, the food superb, the atmosphere great, the programme well tailored and we still had time to ourselves.  So well done Exodus!

Most Inspirational Moment

The most stimulating part of our trip was the visit of Herculenium and second the Walk of the Gods - Capri is nice but very touristy!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Morten was brilliant, very thoughful as every other Exodus guides we have come across.  He was very informative, passionate about Italian life and very knowledgeable. He made a big difference to our holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is a rather easy holiday - you may be tempted by the walking holiday on the Amalfi coast but this is a very good alternative and you will also get plenty of walking opportunities in fact (and see more of the interesting sites!) .

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

An excellent week, exploring and wandering around the Amalfi Coast.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting all the way up to the top of Ana-Capri and looking over the whole of the Amalfi Coast and the Bay of Napls in all her spectacular glory.

Thoughts on Group Leader

One word can only be used to described Christine, and that word is FAB. She was great, even when she was unfortunately unwell during the week she just got on with the task at hand, ans that was making sure we was all enjoying ourselves.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be advised you will climb up and down a lot  of steps, and by a lot I mean A LOT. So if you suffer with any knee complaints, then you may want to reconsider taking this trip. Also the month we went in (June) was very hot, so make sure you take plenty of water

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

A very enjoyable week in a beautiful and interesting region of Italy. The busy itinerary was balanced out by relaxing evenings in the hotel, with lovely food, lots of wine, and lots of laughs.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Walk of the Gods was a definite highlight, we had excellent weather and the scenery along the way was beautiful. The Roman sites of Heculaneum and Pompeii were both fascinating and humbling, and with Vesuvius looming in the background all the while it makes the disasters in these towns seem very real. It was all brought to life for us by our excellent guide Fabrizzio. For a taste of how the other half live, you can't beat Capri, truly fabulous and the chair lift ride to the top of Mt Solaro was one of the most peaceful and relaxing parts of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Far more energetic than most of the guests, and at times I think he forgot that we were all on holiday! But cannot fault his enthusiasm or helpfulness, and he stayed with us all week and organised us all well. The only disappointment was that in his suggesting to switch the itinerary around (to give us better weather for the walk), we ended up in Naples on the one day of the week (Tuesday for future reference!) the Archeological museum was closed which was disappointing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It really was much cooler in the mountains (where the hotel is) than on the coast, so pack something warm for the evenings if you are going early (or late) in the season. Shopping time is limited, so grab those souvenirs when you can. Some of the rooms in the main hotel building can be a little noisy so take earplugs. The roads are interesting - lots of switchbacks and sharp bends, and very close to the edge, so if you suffer from motion sickness or vertigo, make sure you take some travel sickness tablets with you. Mostly though, it was good fun!

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Lots to see in a beautiful setting with a friendly hotel to return to each night.

Most Inspirational Moment

The 'Walk of the Gods' in brilliant sunshine. The sea was unbelievably blue and the spring wildflowers brightened the hillsides.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was like a knowledgeable friend, always willing to do whatever was needed to make the holiday special.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Spring is lovely for the flowers, but make sure you bring warm clothing for the evenings.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

What a perfect combination, great hospitallity, superbly led, beautifu place, wonderful food.  A real gem in your crown Exodus!

Most Inspirational Moment

Delightful views and countryside, well the cooking demonstrations too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Best one yet.  Consumate professional; her preparation made all the difference, she was a mine of local knowledge, very atttentive to the needs of all the group members and great company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get to the lovely local ceramicist's shop much better and for some things cheaper than the mass produced tourist fare in the larger towns.  Antonio in the local bar will feed you very well, rustic and lots of it.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

This was one of the better walking holidays I’ve been on.  The views are stunning and you will even enjoy your day on the beach. Food in the hotel is pretty good where you get a chance to make and eat your own pizza and gnocchi.

Most Inspirational Moment

After the first days walk where we sat down, alfresco, at the small bar in town and drank some refreshing beers and watched the world go by.  A very relaxing moment. The other inspirational moment was the fantastic trip to Pompeii.  The place just took my breath away.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Suzy was a very organised and conciderate guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You will need a good pair of hiking boots as some walks are hilly and rocky.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Fantastic holiday.  Brilliant group leader (Barbara), amazing and well located hotel with fantastic food, great trips and well organised.

Most Inspirational Moment

Pompeii....or the Walk of the Gods....stunning scenary and amazing history.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was fab.  Incredibly knowledgable and very friendly.  Kept the group together well without being overbearing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Very good choice for either a new Exodus traveller to see what it's all about or a great shorter break for a seasoned Exodus traveller (like myself).

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Famous sites that everyone has heard about, you should go at least once and this is an excellent way to do it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the footsteps of the residents of Herculaneum of 79AD and almost expecting to meet one round the next corner. Also scrambling round the crater of Vesuvius, it looks exactly what a volcano should look like.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is rated 'leisurely' but we actually did quite a lot of walking, which was fine, frequently up and down. The cliff walks, the volcano, Capri and the small towns involved many steps or steep slopes that require moderate fitness to enjoy.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

We had high expectations for our holiday, and Exodus met them. Our tour guide, Paula, arranged our days perfectly and was always on hand to help, even on the free day.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walk of the Gods because it had everything - stunning views, good company and a chance to work off the excellent food we had enjoyed every day! By the way, we counted 1273 steps down to Positano, not 1500 as in the guide, so not quite as scary as we thought.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Professional, knowledgable, friendly and nothing too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared for long and busy days, but you will take away many happy memories.

AMALFI COAST & BAY OF NAPLES

Beautiful part of Italy and I doubt we’d have managed to do as much as we did in the time if we’d done this stretch of coast on our own. Lovely touches from the hotel staff- a cookery demonstration and the pizza night were brilliant. Thank you- it was a great family run hotel and brilliant friendly helpful staff.

Most Inspirational Moment

I personally loved Walk of the Gods but also Vesuvuis. Naples was somewhat of a surprise. This was the part of the holiday I'd been least looking forward to as cities are not my thing. I'd also been lead to believe that Naples has had a bad press. Thanks to Paula our fabulous guide and her enthusiasm, Naples quickly became one of my personal highlights. Really vibrant city, amazing churches, fabulous crammed tiny streets, street markets, mad Vespa drivers and lunch in a local taverna that Paula had thoughtfully sourced herelf. Also more great coffee and lovely views of Vesuvius accross the bay. How can I also forget the food?! I was in food heaven. Fresh tomatoes, artichokes, basil, bread, pasta, cheese, wine... And Chef Giovanni's 'mealt in the mouth' Panacotta.  Everywhere you looked there was fresh produce either growing on hillsides or lying in front of you on your plate... Fabulous

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paula is enthusiastic, helpful, friendly, approachable, witty... all the attributes needed for a great guide. Im only sorry I couldnt get to know her and stay with her for longer. I'd like to think we'd all end up firm pals! She showed us Greco- Roman ruins and we would like to show her the Greco-Roman Architecture of Manchesters Trafford centre one day- the offer still stands Paula!!  Paula was also really good at giving us Italian travel advice as we extended our trip and travelled north on our own. Thanks for the Italian lesson- we got round Italy unscathed and arrived home safely! Thank you Paula, I havent got a bad word to say!

Advice for Potential Travellers

PLEASE take into account added extra expenses whilst away. The trip notes suggest 10Euros for lunches but once you've had the obligatory Italian Espresso this is more like 15. There are also one or two added extras to pay for such as slight seeing on your free day and Funicular/ bus fares/ chair lift on Capri. If travelling with a family I would imagine that this would really tot up. Also the Gellato in Amalfi is compulsory ( trust me.. it puts Mr Whippy to shame!)... all of these things really do add up. If travelling on a budget PLEASE budget for more Euros than you think you'll need. Unlike other exodus trips that I have done this really is in a touristy part of the world and I really wasnt expecting the tourist prices for a coffee.
