Travel Solo, Together
Here’s what some of our past solo travellers had to say:
What our travellers say
“Exceptional! After decades of solo travel, doing it all myself, this was a game changer being in a small group…I like my space a lot yet everyone was so authentic, like-minded.”
– Arlette Lee, Exodus Traveller
“The trips are so well organised. I like to travel alone which is well catered for on their holidays, as there are often several other singles on their trips.”

Solo travel tour FAQs
How easy is it to travel solo for the first time?
Travelling alone can be exciting, yet nerve-wracking, especially when it’s your first time. But choosing to travel solo with Exodus means you don’t need to worry about planning your route or deciding on safe destinations for single travellers. Our group tours make it easy for you to meet other solo travellers and take the stress out of organising your own itineraries.
Contact us today and discover how easy it is to book a solo travel tour.
Will I have my own room when I travel solo?
On our adventures, we offer twin-shared rooms with you and another solo traveller of the same gender in your group.
If you’d like the flexibility to book your own private room for the duration of your trip, for a small added charge, you can choose to add a single supplement to your booking over the phone or online on many of our trips.
Travelling solo can be daunting, so we’ve put together group itineraries across a wide selection of destinations that are ideal for single travellers. If you want to experience new cultures, a solo trekking holiday, exciting activities, or some of the world’s most stunning scenery, we can take the hard work out of your planning. And, because half of our travellers also choose to holiday solo, you won’t be the only one in the group!
Planning for one of our solo holidays is easier than you might think. Of course, as with any other trip, you’ll want to consider travel insurance, foreign currency, and any required visas or vaccinations for the destination you’ll be travelling to.
As our trips include expert guides, you’ll have someone on hand to recommend and advise you along the way, should you need any help. And, because your itinerary is taken care of, all you’ll need to worry about while you’re there is having fun!
Our solo travel tours offer a way of experiencing your ideal single traveller holiday as part of a larger group.
Choose your ideal tour, your departure dates, and whether you want flights included. Your selected trip notes will include details of the itinerary, accommodation, weather, food, and transport. Plus, other practical information to prepare you for the trip.
Depending on your chosen solo tour, you’ll spend one to three weeks exploring your selected destination with a range of organised activities. Some of your trip will be allocated as free time to enable you to discover the area at your own leisure.
Some tours and activities are suited to most travellers while others require a certain level of fitness. To find out whether a tour is right for you, take a look at the ‘essential info’ tab on your chosen holiday.
Our small guided-group tours are led by experienced local experts and normally have around 8-16 people in one group. We pride ourselves on having an interest-packed itinerary that’s been fine-tuned to showcase the highlights and hidden gems your destination has to offer.
We also like to encourage an inclusive atmosphere with our guided-group adventures, so most days are spent taking part in daily activities with your group. When it comes to mealtimes, check your trip notes to see what breakfasts, lunches, and dinners are included in our itineraries.
On some evenings, your guide will accompany you to dinner and help you choose which regional specialities to try. However, we also like to include some downtime and free days on our trips. This gives you the freedom to explore as you like and heed the guidance of our local expert, who will give great suggestions of where to eat and the best museums and local art galleries to visit. They can also help you organise optional activities like kayaking, ziplining, and more.
We’re lucky to have travellers joining us from all over the world, with many coming from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, in a wide range of ages. And what’s more, over 50% of our customers choose to travel solo with us so we rarely have a group that only has one solo traveller – most comprise a good mix of solos, couples, and friends travelling together.
Prior to your trip, why not join in the discussion on our Facebook community group, The Boot Room. It’s a space for our Exodus adventurers—where you can post a message, start a discussion with other travellers, ask questions, and share travel tips. This is a great way to get to know your group before you head off on your adventure.
Our tour groups normally have 8-16 people in them. We find that this is an ideal number as it’s not too large and allows everyone to get to know each other.
As over half of our travellers are also on solo holidays with us, it’s a good group size to find others with similar interests to share experiences with.
Your leader will usually meet you at the destination airport and the entire group will get together for the first time at the specified start hotel. This will be detailed in your itinerary and trip notes.
Travelling on a guided-group tour can be more cost-effective than travelling solo on your own, as you could split the cost of some optional activities with the group.
The majority of transfers, included meals, and organised activities are also covered in your booking costs too, which can all add up if you’re travelling alone, especially if you’re looking to travel in remote locations.
Each solo holiday is given an activity rating which will help you decide if the tour is right for you.
Our ratings relate to fitness levels, expected weather conditions, and the schedule pace, amongst other factors. They’re also dependent on the type of trip you’re considering such as solo cycling holidays or solo ski holidays.
It’s important to find out the activity level of the tour before booking to make sure it’s one you’re comfortable with.

I was a solo traveller and had never gone on a group trip before. The trip covered so much ground, I saw loads.AMANDA PATHE Essential China
Angela Beckwith Madagascan DiscovererMadagascar is a truly special place and this trip is a real adventure. I have heard Madagascar described as one for the “seasoned traveller” and this is pretty accurate – certainly it is somewhere that you should go with your eyes and mind open and prepare for the rugged terrain and slightly uncomfortable journeys. That said, I would not trade a thing as the experiences are all part of its charm and more than made up for by the beautiful scenery and amazing wildlife.
I loved the entire trip and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of experiences, from the slightly chaotic capital Tana, to the jagged UNESCO site of the Grand Tsingy, to the peace and tranquillity of Ifaty, all interspersed with amazing national parks and wildlife including lemurs, chameleons, fossa and owls.
We were incredibly lucky with our wildlife viewings, with red-fronted brown lemurs, greater bamboo lemur, Goodman’s mouse lemur, dwarf lemur, grey mouse lemur, sportive lemur, ring-tailed lemur, indri, diademed sifaka, Verreaux’s sifaka, Milne-Edwards sifaka and many many more. We went in October and the babies were out in force – so many incredibly playful young lemur could be seen and photographed, all apparently quite indifferent to our presence. The day and night walks were all very well organised and provided plenty of opportunity to just stand back and observe these creatures in their natural habitat. We were rarely rushed on the walks (only when the guides had heard tell of something else exciting up ahead) and the local guides were expert at finding the best angles and lighting for some great photographs, even in challenging conditions.
I found the hotels to be of a general good standard and, as a solo traveller, did not feel as though I was in any way penalised by room size or quality. In fact, by luck of the draw, in one location I ended up with the suite! We had at least warm water most of the time and the food was generally good if a little repetitive after a while. Breakfast was generally fruit, breads, jams, and eggs cooked to order. Where there was nowhere appropriate to stop for lunch, we were able to order sandwiches to go so we never went hungry on the long drive days.
Martin Wright Cycle Cilento & the Amalfi CoastThis was my first experience of travelling solo and my first experience doing an organized cycle tour. So I had a few concerns about whether I would like the group, would the cycling be interesting and challenging enough, would I meet people that I could become long term friends with. Well I should not have worried. The group dynamics were fantastic with a range of ages and professions from all corners of the world and we all got on wonderfully. The cycling was beautiful – I had heard so much about the Amalfi coast so was very surprised that the Cilento coast was even better to cycle with a little less traffic and a lot less touristy. And it was certainly challenging – not ever so much that you think you can’t make it but even the fittest of us felt some of the long hills. And we did develop friendships that are enduring – even looking at more trips together.
Two thumbs up to Paolo the guide – absolutely brilliant. Accomplishes everything with a smile on his face. He really did an outstanding job keeping us all on track and making sure we were all looked after.
But the most pleasant surprise for me was how relaxed you become so quickly. Everything is taken care of for you so the 100 decisions you normally make on holiday such as “where shall we have lunch?” or “what time should we have breakfast or dinner?” are all taken care of for you. In fact by day 3 you didn’t have to care about where you slept that night or how far you were going to cycle – you just got on the bike and knew everything would be taken care of. A really relaxing experience!
